The piano room

Ignore the wainscoting. This is always the way with home improvements -- fixing the worst thing makes the next-worst thing look more awful. The kids are at work removing the white press-board panelling as I type. Not sure what we'll be doing with the walls yet. Everything is a work in progress.

The floor has now had the sealer oil topcoat apply and the colour has come up beautifully. The floor is just soooo lovely.

  1. OK, I am confused, why isn't that wall painted yellow, orange and red?

The piano looks stunning on the new floor :)

  2. This is the other room. Still trying to decide how to deal with it. There's no drywall here, just pressboard panelling over square-milled logs. It has a very low dropped ceiling, a cold concrete portion of one wall that replaces what used to be a chimney and assorted weird wiring issues. Many challenges to overcome; lots more required than just some weirdly bright paint.

  3. Lovely! We are thinking of similar for when we retire our messed-on-by-babies-and-toddlers rather-too-pale carpet in our lounge and diningroom.

  4. Looks lovely, Miranda! Did you have any trouble moving the piano on the hardwood? We had five guys to move ours using carpet remnants and plywood and it still dented the floor in one spot. Which reminds me, I still have to call the tuner!

  5. No problem moving the piano. I find the three long legs of a baby grand are much easier to manage than the four no-clearance feet on an upright. The flooring installer and I would lift up to raise one leg, a kid would slide a quarter sheet of plywood under it. Repeat for the other two legs. Move piano. Repeat lifting to reposition plywood, move piano again. Small kids are very useful!
